What are Metrics in Facts?

Metrics are essential data points used to monitor, measure, and evaluate performance across various domains. They are generally categorized into two types: those collected from telemetry (sensors or devices) and those derived from calculations based on existing data. The first type involves directly measured data, while the second type allows users to create custom metrics through calculations, offering flexibility in performance analysis.

These metrics are used extensively to generate charts, reports, and insights that help track key performance indicators such as energy consumption, efficiency, and costs. Calculated metrics, like Energy Performance Indicators (EnPIs), are particularly valuable for assessing energy performance, optimizing resource use, and adhering to industry standards. By providing actionable insights, metrics enable informed decision-making and continuous improvement across different areas of operation.

Prerequisites for the Metrics Feature

What can we do with the metrics in Facts?

  • Create Metric Telemetry Input: You can create a Metric Telemetry Input to capture real-time data from sensors or devices, structuring this data for monitoring and visualization. This type of metric helps track live data and provides insights into operational activities directly through telemetry.

  • Create Metric Calculation: With Metric Calculation, you can define custom metrics by combining existing metrics through formulas or expressions. This allows you to create specific performance indicators tailored to your operational goals, offering more detailed and actionable insights.

  • Create Charts and Diagrams: Metrics can be visualized through charts and diagrams, which can be done in the dashboard section by selecting analytics charts. These visuals make it easier to analyze trends, compare performance over time, and identify areas for improvement. For more details, click on Dashboard.

  • Organizational Tree Visualization: You can use the Organizational Tree to display and analyze metrics across different levels of your organization. This hierarchical structure allows you to break down and visualize performance metrics, such as energy consumption, at each organizational level. By viewing metrics in this tree-like format, you can better understand contributions from individual units, compare their performance, and make informed decisions for optimization.

Procedures

Create Metric Telemetry Input Calculation

  1. Navigate to the Calculations section.
  2. Click on the Metrics tab.
  3. Click the "+" symbol to add a new metric input calculation.
  4. Select Metric Telemetry Input and click NEXT.
  5. Entre a Name and Alisa.
  6. Enter a description in the Description field.
  7. Select the relevant organization from the Organisation dropdown menu.
  8. Input the unit of measurement in the Unit of Measurement field.
  9. Choose the aggregation type from the Aggregation type dropdown menu.
  10. (Optional) Check "Enable interpolation for filling missing values" to fill gaps in your datasets.
  11. Click Create to finalize the metric input calculation.

Create Metric Calculation

Important

Prerequisite: A metric must be pre-created.

  1. Navigate to the Calculations section.
  2. Click on the Metrics tab.
  3. Click the "+" symbol to start a new metric calculation.
  4. Select Metric Calculation and click NEXT.
  5. Entre a Name and Alisa.
  6. Add a description in the Description field.
  7. Choose the appropriate organization from the Organisation dropdown.
  8. Input the unit of measurement in the Unit of Measurement field.
  9. Enter the calculation formula in the Calculation field. For example: =M1+M2, where M1 and M2 are metric names.
  10. Click Add metric, then select the metric from the Metric dropdown.
  11. Click Create to complete the metric calculation setup.

Edit Metric Input

  1. Navigate to the Calculations section.
  2. Click on the Metrics tab.
  3. Locate the metric you want to modify.
  4. You have two options to edit the metric:
    • Option 1: Click the three dots "(...)" next to the metric, then select Edit.
    • Option 2: Click on the metric you want to edit, then click the Edit (pencil icon) in the top right corner.
  5. Alternatively, on the widget, click the three dots "(...)" and choose Edit.
  6. In the editing interface, select either Sum of Sub Organizational Units or Custom Calculation.
note
  • Sum of Sub Organizational Units: This option calculates the total metric value by summing individual values from all relevant sub-organizational units. It provides a straightforward way to aggregate data across multiple hierarchical levels, giving you a comprehensive view of performance or resource usage.

  • Custom Calculation: This option allows you to create a user-defined metric based on specific calculation logic. You can select different Twin and Telemetry sources to generate a custom formula. This flexibility enables you to tailor metrics by adding or subtracting values from organizational units, offering deeper insights through customized performance indicators that suit your specific goals.

  1. If you select Sum of Sub Organizational Units, click Save.
  2. If you select Custom Calculation:
    • Choose the custom calculation and add the Twin and Telemetry.
    • To remove a device, click SUBTRACT DEVICE and select the device and capability to remove.
    • Click Save.

Delete a Rule or a Metric

  1. Navigate to the Calculations section.
  2. Click the Metrics tab, depending on the metrics you want to delete.
  3. Click the three dots "(...)".
  4. Click Delete.
  5. Confirm deletion.
