What is an Organization in Facts?

An organization in Facts is a structural framework that allows you to logically group and manage related resources. It serves as the foundation for defining how different aspects of your business, such as departments, teams, or regional offices, are organized and interconnected within Facts. Each organization is represented by an organizational tree, which consists of multiple organizational units. These units can be further broken down into sub-units, forming a parent-child relationship that mirrors the operational hierarchy of your business. Moreover, each organizational unit can have devices linked to it, enabling you to manage resources and operations efficiently within the organization. This flexible structure ensures that your company's data and resources are systematically organized, making it easier to manage and access them as needed.

What are Organizational Units?

Organizational Units (OUs) are sub-units or divisions within organization. They are part of an organizational tree, which can consist of multiple OUs. Each organizational unit can contain zero or more sub-units (forming a hierarchical "children" relationship) and can have devices linked to it. These units serve as branches or teams within your organization, helping to structure your company both hierarchically and geographically. OUs are used to group and manage devices within a factory or organization, making it easier to organize and monitor operations. Devices are attached to specific OUs, allowing users to view and analyze the devices within the context of that unit. You can link multiple devices to an Organizational Units.

Example

Let's consider the following OU tree structure:

  • BigPumps

    • Ludwighafen
      • Device1
    • Frankfurt
      • Device2
    • Temse
      • Device3
  • BigPumps: This is the Organization, the top-level entity that oversees multiple units.

  • Ludwighafen: This is an Organizational Unit (OU), a subdivision within the organization, like a specific location or department.

  • Device1: This is a Device linked to an organizational unit, representing equipment or resources managed within that unit.
