An IoT Edge Gateway, configured as a virtual appliance, is a pre-packaged software solution that operates within a virtual machine to securely manage, process, and communicate data between IoT devices and the cloud, enabling edge computing capabilities.

A virtual appliance is essentially a pre-packaged software solution, housed within a virtual machine (VM), that can be deployed on a variety of platforms. This software solution is designed to run on a hypervisor, such as VirtualBox or Hyper-V, allowing you to create an instance of the appliance on any compatible host system.
